Two Important Questions

I am getting the Diablo Battle Chest set in the mail, I have two questions on the matter.
1.Can you important your character from Diablo 1 to Diablo 2?
2.Does Diablo 2 need a patch to play? I keep hearing people complaining their's won't work and someone always ask if they downloaded the patch.

grats with new game
1. no you can import characters. the characters in D1 is very different from D2
2. you can play without the patch. basic LoD is 1.7 i think. the newest patch is 1.11. the nevest patch has made a nev skill system. you have synergies there, in skills. you'll find out!

I strongly recommend downloading the patch before you even start playing diablo. The patches contain new (very powerful) items, fixes and changes; man of these changes are pretty drastic to the point that if you patch your characters after starting it'll almost mean restarting another character.
Besides it's better to stay in the loop.
