Dude, I'll tell you this now, Archer's are insanely powerful and almost broken in the game.

If you want an easy beat to the game, get 1 nature mage (for healing), one fighter (to distract enemies), and the rest archers. You will beat that game in NO time flat.

I dunno how to explain it, but they are insanely powerful.

It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

No, as he is comparing DS2 archers to DS1 archers, then goes into asking about DS1 archers.

In DS1, archer's weapons do less damage than fighter's weapons, but archers are powerful because they are able to begin hammering an opponent the instant they spot one. It may take awhile for an opponent to reach your fighters, and during that period your archers can do a lot of damage. For example, they can clear an entire group of approaching skeletons in the Crypts, before those skeletons ever reach your fighters.

One way that archers are better than mages, is that they strike at longer ranges than mages. In the beginning, you will use spells like Flash, which only has a range of about 6, and archer's weapons hit at 10 or longer. Even though spell damage improves as you progress through the game, I think that archer's damage remains ahead of it, although I can't, at the moment, back this opinion up with specific numbers.

To get the most fun out of the game, I recommend using a variety of characters: 2 fighters, 2 archers, and 2 mages (one of each kind). This lets you develope each kind of character, and makes the game more interesting.

Dungeon Siege 1 archers(spoiler)

If you're playing the Single Player campaign, you'll get access to the best ranged weapons in the game. A Flamethrower, a Machine Gun, and a Grenade Launcher. The Flamethrower will hit multiple enemies and the Machine Gun does a LOT of damage. The Grenade Launcher shoots bombs at monsters, and can also be effective on groups. It is pretty much a necessity on Hard difficulty against a certain boss monster.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.
