Corrupt game...

My current (and first) character seems to have become corrupted some how. I have five pets in the in with stuff in their inventory. Two of those are unable to be viewed or put into the party even if there is space available for them. They're just stuck in the inn. I can swap out others, so I know I'm doing the mechanics of party swapping correctly. I'm not over my party size limit. The problem persists even after a reboot of my computer and reloading my game.
I never got to finish DS1 for similar bugs which would end my play quite abruptly and left me quite unsatisfied. DS2 seems to want to end the same way... as a coaster. Game ending bugs shouldn't be in a finished game, specially a game from Microsoft.
Any fix for this problem or do I shelve what looks to be a pretty good game?

Hmmm ... well I do not know if this is the case for you but for some people if you sent the ice pet to the Inn first, it mucks up the rest of them. If this is the case I am not aware of a solution to it unfortunately.
Of course I was wondering if you have saved the game more than twice after this occured? If not, then you can always try the back up files, but I am guessing that you probably have. Another thing, what is your graphics card, just out of curiousity really? Some people have had problems with Nvidia and the Inn.

My Inn currently has the Half-giant guy from the first town, a dire wolf, and four packmules (two of which are unaccessable, two are fine).
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GTO.
Getting to back ups is not a solution to the problem... I will not be continuing to play a game that is broken.

Well as I have said, before the patch came out, reading about certain bugs and possible solutions to them, I remember people reporting Inn problems, similar to your own, due to some kind of an nvidia issue which was not fixed by the patch later on. That is the closest to your situation that I know of. I haven't heard of any mods that could solve this I'm afraid but maybe someone else will know.
Now the game is bugged, no doubt about it and the patch does not fix all of them. The back up was a suggestion in the sense of perhaps at that point in time the game was fine, but if you;ve saved more than twice... I am sorry to see you won't finish it, over all it is not so bad.

I can't imagine what "not so bad" means to you. I stuck half of the stuff I had on those two mules and now they are inaccessable. The game is broken and it's really a crime that they are allowed to publish it with bugs of this maginitude.

Ds Ii
I just finish the beginning game without one bug but but I did not have any animals. With the many teleports an animal may seam nice but unnecesarry.
I recommend you keep the best and leave the rest.

I'm a packrat and I really must keep one of each item to really enjoy this game. Trashing a unique or a set simply because I don't intend to use it would go against pretty much everything I enjoy about this type of game to begin with.
Altering my playstyle to get around a bug is much less satisfying than simply quitting the game and going back to Diablo II.
There's no one here who can help with this issue? How about some insight as to how to get help elsewhere?

I've done a search on this topic and apart from the Nvidia issue I mentioned I doubt very much you'll find a solution. I've been through quite a few forums and nothing.
Anyway - not so bad - I haven't had a single bug appear in my game. I know of only one person who had the Finala not showing up at the bridge but he had the save files backed up per my advice and that was solved easily. The patch (which I hope you have) did solve a lot of it. Besides, a game with no bugs, haven't seen that one yet and when I compare this to KOTOR 2 for example this is nothing.

Myself I don't remember any bug, that's rare for any applications but more particularely for games. Well it seems I got luck.
Have you tried to release in Nature some of your pets? It seems that the stuff they carry is important not them. I think you try get a pet from inn, put items on ground, and release it in nature. Then try again get pets you can't access. With luck it could works.
Also if you buy and add more pets in the inn, what happen?
