when you sell item from unique sets (stuff with the yellow brackgroun) do they stay in the shop or do they get recycle into the world?

Normally the get recycled, unless you make a shop of your own and save it from there each time, so you can buy and sell whenever you want

if I drop something in the world, does it stay there? I'm asking cause I'm starting to run out of space in the chest and I don't necessarily want to get rid of some of the stuff.

Objects on ground will disapear.
For more space and if you like inventory/items management, use pets or mercenary in the inn. The best is to buy one or two mule and make them grow by feeding them. They will get two more tabs of inventory.
With that much space you should have enough or it's time to drop some crap.

And there are mods to enlarge your inventory. Rather good ones too.

Before you use the mules trick, you should hear my story. I created three mules and fed them up to three pages. One mule was going to be for Ranged, one for Melee and one for Magic. Two of these mules are now inaccessable in the inn. I can't view them or add them to my party. I can swap out other characters, but these two are stuck. I've given up the game because of this... I'm a collector by choice. If the game is going to rob me of my enjoyment, I'll simply not play it.
I might look into the mods that allow for large stashes, or the "create your own shop" idea. But until this issue is resolved somehow, the game is shelved for me.

What you have is an NPC corruption issue. They have no idea why it occurs, and there are several triggers that are known, and others that aren't. I've read up about it and that is the main thing they want to do with the patch 2.3, only the last I have read is that that particular patch is not even planned right now, ie they have no clue as to how to resolve this problem. The solution (if you can call it that) being of course to back up the save games separeately, and use things like large inventories in the form of mods.

well everything seems to work fine now but now that you mention it I think I'll start backing up my saves seperatly just to be safe.

It's good to here that my case is a likely "known bug" and that they are considering fixes for it. I can't buy the claim that they can't fix it, only that they might not be willing to devote the time to. I'll be keeping an eye out for 2.3, but until then I'd still recommend against using NPC mules for storage.

The thing is it is not just NPC mules - the thing occures in various times - when you skip the hire dialogue with some characters, when you skip it when you disband them, a lot of the times when you disband the ice pet first and more that are not even known. That is where they are having problems. Don't hold your breath for the new patch any time soon unfotunately, their own words.
