I'm curious - are there any benefits/hidden bonuses to using an "Enchantable Legendary Etched Tome" as opposed to an "Enchantable Legendary Mage's Book"?
I can't see any difference - except that the former needs a higher character level..

Can anyone enlighten me?

PS - Where's this "Easter Egg" level where I can supposedly do interesting stuff like upgrade the Haku blade?

I can't help you on the spell books. I've looked at them multiple times myself and found no difference. Same with some of the higher books as well. As for the hidden level, there is a very good guide here:
