Leaving Greilyn Isle Problem ...

Hello I am new here, and in need of some aid ...
I did the quest, and got the portal open and what not.
When I went through the portal and ended up in the desert, I realized that I had a full inventory and forgot some stuff in my chest, so I Town POrtaled back to town.
Now the portal is NOWHERE to be found!! I can HEAR it but not see it?????

You left the beach at East Greilyn Beach Portal and ended up - where?
That portal should indeed take you to the desert, but in the resistance camp, so there should be soldiers and buildings about, if it took you anywhere else it sounds like a bug in the game.
Two things, what version of the game are you running, and what Act are you in. If it's Act I, then it may be worth uninstalling and re-installing, then download the 2.2 patch and load that, then just restart, otherwise, back up your games to another spot, then do as above restore your savegames and just pray the new game recognisies them.
By the way, all the saves are in the My Documents/MyGames/Dungeon Siege 2. there are 4 subfolders here just leave the Dungeon Siege 2 folder alone, as otherwise you'll delete ALL your saves, keysettings and such, as well as logs of crashes and any screenshots you may have.

I reinstalled the game and now it is all better!
