Crashing.

Ok, problem.

I have started up titan quest, and am playing the game right. Whenever I create a character, male or female, I can't get past the first part as the game crashes.

PC specs if they matter-

750 + ram
Nvidia FX 5500 256 MB ram
2.16 AMD at 2.8 Ghz equivelant

I cant seem to locate crash fixes on the TitanVault site, and I did try googling and it's a pain to go through, so if everyone knows off hand a way to fix this, lemme know. I think the patch is out, not sure, but if it is, I'll edit this and say if the patch worked or not.

Well, I don't know if this will work but have you tried lowering your DirectX sound acceleration to basic acceleration? It works for the demo version, so I don't see how it would not work for the full version as well. Hope this helped. :)

I have no clue how to do that but if you can tell me, I'll give it a shot.

Go to the 'start' menu and find the 'run' icon. Type 'dxdiag' in it and you will be brought into the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. From there, look for the sound tab and you'll see the slider at the bottom of the menu. Slide it all the way to 'basic acceleration' and that's it. You can also test the DirectSound if you want.

Did what you said and updated the latest vid card drivers, and no such luck. It gives me about two minutes in the game before dying. Meh, patch comes out tommorrow, I guess I'll see if that fixes it.

Honestly, I'm not sure what is causing all these crashes for people, I've only experienced a single crash since I started playing the game a few days ago and my computer's specs are around the same as Syberis'.

Ravager, Titan Quest played well when you first installed it or do you have to make some adjustments (like DirectX sound acceleration) or something like that before playing the game?

Nope, it's been fine since I started, I adjusted a couple of the settings in-game to make it run at a reasonable pace (I think I have the Anti-aliasing and V-Sync on, but the reflections and shadows turned down to Medium), I haven't touched any of the DirectX or even the NVidia settings outside of the game.
Oh, I have the FX5700 card.

They have been for me. I couldn't do a thing before the patch now I'm all set, not a single one and I've been through the entire first part and am on to epic now.

I wasn't even able to install the game at first, I went went back to the store where i bought my game exchanged it for the DVD version and since then I only had one crash and I blame it more on my comp than on the game. If you are using norton consider switching to something else too, it can cause a lot of problems.
