Armor doesn't work

I started over dungeon siege 2 as a dwarf. I leveled up the chant of stone ability which gives more armor and health points everytime your intelligence increases. I put on a ring to increase my intelligence and the armor rating didn't go up only the health did. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
