Manticore in cave, Fayum Oasis (spoiler)
Manticore in cave, Fayum Oasis (spoiler)
I'm playing Epic level as warfare/ defense character. I found a Manticore boss at the end of that long cave in Fayum Oasis area. It killed me with one shot so I waited a while till I leveled up a few times and went back, same story. Does someone have some hints on how to take him out? What attack does he use? He kills me so fast I can't make it out. I thought it was poison but maybe it is lightning. D

It's lightning. At least that's what killed me about 4 times before I got wise. I believe he also had a fire attack in addition to his melee attack. His attacks appear to rotate in a cycle. Just wait for his lighning attack to finish and then go in and attack. Then get out before the lightning attack cycles again. Wash, rinse, repeat. It can be a bit tedious but it will eventually get the job done.

I think that for a melee character the manticore is the most difficult boss to dispatch. I can easily defeat him with my soothsayer by summoning the giant that you get when you get to level 32 in the spirit field, but my slayer got killed so many times that i lost all of my points towards the next level.
Actually, for a melee, the Manticore is not too bad once you get used to its fighting style. Be sure though to move around a lot, do not stay in one spot for too long. Also, do not move too far away from him or else he would use his ranged attack, which is pretty devastating if you don't have high enough poison resistance. Keep it at medium range is good. There are two attacks from him that you need to watch out for: 1) The ice breath attack, and
2) the front legs stomping attack. Both of these are pretty easy to predict as you would see him preparing for it. Just move away as he performs those attacks, and then move back in to attack. His physical tail attack shouldn't be too bad so you could take a few hits.

I think he might have different attacks each time you face him. When I faced him there was no poison attack. He had what appeared to be some sort of chain lightning attack, a fire attack and his stomping attack. I'm playing a Sage and just speared him repeatedly for a few seconds after each lightning attack and then took off running. Then just repeated that maneuver until he was dead. I do know that on Epic he is one of the toughest monsters in the game, if not the toughest. I've killed Typhon on Epic and the Manticore is still listed as the toughest monster killed in my character stat window.

ouch
Wow,
That guy is insane! I remember when I was there on normal, I was wondering what ate these huge things of which the skeletons remain there. I found it a pity that nothing was there. Well, now I know, and it ate me as well, loads of times.
I reckon it's a cool fight, but I wouldn't have minded a fountain closer. I think I'm going to do this one on multiplayer... So I can at least go back with a portal after I get toasted...
If anyone feels for helping me, lemme know...
