DS2: BW (INN Issue)

Ok, here is the problem(s) I'm having:
1) When I try to bring characters into the game with me they seem to get dropped before I get into the game. I was able to rehire one of the characters that I haven't played in a long time, but the character didn't have any of the items that were on her when I left her in the INN. When I tried to add one of the characters at the INN it just does nothing, basically like I've clicked "X" to close.
2) When I tried to set up a couple of Pack Rams the other night I put all the stuff I wanted on the Pack Ram(s) on the ground and sent my other to characters to the INN. I purchased a couple Pack Rams (named accordingly) and placed the items on the Rams. I then sent the Ram(s) to the INN and brought back the other characters. When I did the characters still had all the items I had placed in their inventories and the Rams I had placed in the INN were not there. While nothing was lost except the items from my main character, it still sucked that I was not able to place my extra items on pack animals.
Just wanted to know if these issues are common and if anyone has been able to remedy them. If not, I guess I just have to rehire my other characters and I guess pack animals are out.
