DS Mod Recommendations requested

-----I am new (one week) to the modding scene, and I would like some help and/or suggestions. I have slogged through DS1 and DS LOA stock on my beat-up old laptop enough to them by rote, and I am currently trying Circle of Lorent with various mods in Resources file. It works OK, but some of the mods have the monsters dropping their spell books upon dying, which clutters the battle scene. Can anyone suggest how to eliminate this? I plugged in Kane's Content, Nivisec Blacksmith, ZhixalomsInv32, and Level 300 mods (all from DS Edit website, thanks) along with the regular COL mods. There seems to be a problem with some of the weapons I bought at the shop. They don't seem to be able to HIT the monsters. The monsters just bounce back a step every time they are swung at by the questionable weapons. Has anyone experienced this kind of thing? Do I have to start all over with minimum mods?
-----Also, can anyone please tell me how I can get the Hat of Procurement from DS LOA into a single player game in Circle of Lorent, or any other mod? I just wanna play with it for a while. By the time I get to it in DS LOA my PIII 800 Mhz 256 Mg is choked up at 230 hours and the game stutters too badly to enjoy. I know I need new hardware, but I am waiting for next years release of Windows by Microsoft before I plunk down cash for a new laptop.
-----I downloaded a mod manager to turn on/off .dsres files without having to delete them from the resources folder, but I have yet to try it. Can anyone give me recommendations about using mods? My email addy is ajschwaiger@hotmail.com if you prefer to reply to me there, or if you have a file that will help me.
-----Any reply is welcome, even snide remarks.

Hmm, I know this is an older thread and it doesn't appear this forum is very active. I just wanted to mention something however. To the best of my knowledge, Circle of Lorent is compatible with original DS, not DS LOA so the hat would be unavailable.

I hope in the months since your original post you have been using your mod manager, they are very important. There are mods that conflict and cause problems with each other. Oh well, too bad this game isn't as widely played as it used to be....
