I hope someone(s) on the DS2 forum can help me:

I have DS2 and the BW addon. I'd like to play both games completely through in all 3 difficulties sequentially. What I'm hoping to do is play all of Merc difficulty on DS2 then BW, advance to the Veteran difficulty level, then play all of DS2 and BW again, then finally advance to the Elite difficulty level and play DS2 and BW for a final time with the same character. Is this possible? How? By starting BW and selecting the DS2 map option or by playing DS2 through all three difficulties, then importing the character to BW?

By starting BW and selecting the DS2 map option... ya have to beat valdis to do bw map. and have to beat bw map and load ds2 map again to be considered vet..so on so forth, ya go back and forth between the 2 map files when playing with same character
