Problem with starting DSII

Hello all, I just recently lend dungeon siege II from the library (I can borrow games there too) And I just installed it. The installation went fine, but when i click on the image on my desktop, the mouse goes into a 'sand glass-time-thing (I don't know the proper word in English for it), for only 1 millisecond and then it does nothing. No start-up at all.
So I tried installing the patch (v.2.2), and the install worked fine, but then again, I get the sand-glass for one milliesecond and nothing happens. After that I tried installing a new driver for my Radeon 9600 video graphics card (something with 'catalyst'), but it didn't help the problem.
And just a minute ago I uninstalled and installed the game again but the same problem!
Can anyone help me? I really want to play this game, but I just don't know what to do
