auto-attack?

hi all, i have recently been playing the dungeon siege 2 demo and one thing that i find annoying is your selected characters inability to attack on his own, even when he's being attacked!

is there some way to change this in the full game or at least some way to make your main character constantly attack an enemy by clicking on him once, rather than having to click and hold on the enemy? Thanks in advance

Yes.
Under Options, then Game input. There are two boxes to check.
One lets you click-n-go. That is, once you click on a mob to attack, you don't have to hold down the attack button anymore. The attacks will continue until the mob is dead.
The second option is the auto-attack. Works the same way as the DS auto-attack.
However, I would point out that DS2 has incorporated "tactical" programming in the DS2 mobs, and especially in the BW mobs. These mobs will run when hurt, and some run up to attack, then run straight back to a large group of their own. Great way to ambush parties on auto-attack. Caution (and a quick finger on the F1 key to halt movement) is advised.

I've installed the 'deluxe' edition (DS2 and BW) yet in my 'input options' the options to auto attack are greyed out and i can't select them. Anyone know why? Is there a preferences file i can edit to do this instead? I can't see one.

You can only adjust this preference while in the game. IT must be selected for each character. This is due to people wanting auto attack for fighters (mostly) but (usually) not for mages.
