Elemental damage - what is it exactly

Well, theres several skills in storm mastery that gives bonuses to elemental damage. But does elemental damage also mean fire damage as well as ice and lightning? (Does it even include poison?).

Logically, it would make sense for elemental damage to be fire, lightning and ice, but thematically for the skills in storm, it would not make sense for them to buff fire damage as well as ice and lightning.

Is anyone 100% sure on what elemental damage is exactly?

elemental damage is fire, lightning, and cold. Also burn and frost burn but NOT electrical burn.

edit: electrical burn might be effected by int I don't know. I do know %lightning doesn't help electrical burn...

I am curious then....does elemental bonus damage stack to elemental spell damage? Reason I ask is that I made a storm/spirit character and got to say 48th level and maxed his Chain Lightning/ Lightning spell however the damage is not enough to seriously warrant using considering it dies out at not even 1000 damage per spell and with its recharge to wait for...so if Elemental damage bonus % adds to spells this would make this skill a feasible possibility for the future otherwise only really good for normal through epic....like a fair few other elemental damage spells...

Mostly spells are only viable in legendary with -100 recharge and say -80% to energy cost. Then you can stun lock things in lightning and kill them with multiple hits.

I think intelligence adds to spell damage but I cannot prove it. It would be kind of laim if it only added to weapon damage. My hybrid does way more damage when he equips a melee weapon that also does a high elemental damage eg 20 -120 on lykaeus maleous. He has 450 intelligence. He's still doing reasonable damage with ring of flame (I still notice it but its certainly not enough to be the only damage I do)

I tried volcanic orb and it was better to just use distort reality which is not elemental. If you find out the answer post it. I am curious. I might ask on Titanquest.net

Sorry to steal the thread for a moment but I have a question. Say I'm Earth build. I take Earth Enchant and Ring of flame. Does the +% to fire damage also stack onto Ring of flame? or the Shield from Earth?

If not Is there anyway other then Eq with + Fire/Elemental damage to increase ring of flame?

Anything and everything stacks in Titan Quest. There really isn't much that just plan overlaps.

Thats interesting. I wonder if there is a limit on damage reduction % then? Hope so cos that would just suck otherwise. I wonder if it is the 80% cap like the elemental damage, poison and piercing types?

yeah, it's either 65% or 80% IIRC, don't remember which one but I've seen both numbers and the word "cap."

Damage reduction probably doesn't work as cooperatively as you might think.

2 rings that do 10% damage reduction probably don't reduce by 20%. One reduces by 10% then the remaining 90% damage gets reduced by 10% leaving 81% damage going through.

Its more obvious with 2 50% DR rings. Instead of 100% you would get 75%.

What about things that i have found that have a % chance to do like 120% damage reduction?

the 120% damage reduction would eliminate damage if granted singly by 1 item. If you had your resists lowered by an enemy skill (squall) then it would lower that damage reduction I reckon. 2 items granting 60 would not grant 120 they would grant .6 x .4 = .24 coming though therefore 76% reduction from 2 60 reductions. This is a hypothesis based on the unlikelyhood of TQ allowing you to build an invulnerable character.

Also I forget which one is the good one. Damage absorption or reduction? One of them only works against physical or something like that.
