Why I didn't like this game.

Sorry but this game was just waaaaaay too dependent on some stats to be fun. If you do not have high wis, int, or chr you are basically screwed the whole game. Can't for the life of me understand why they had to make the game like this. It's more or less biased towards smart charismatic characters! I was very happy to download a savegame hacker, beat the livin $hit out of the Transcendent one, delete the game and reinstall BG2. I guess thats another reason I didn't like the game, because it's much like BG2 but in too many ways it isn't. If I had played this game before BG2, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more. One thing I did like about the game was the music, it was good, thats something I really look for in an RPG.
By the way, what is up with the ending? I thought NO was supposed to finally die and be reunited with Dianora, but instead I get thrown in the middle of this warring wasteland.
ToB here I come!

Try the game once again (if you don't already own ToB
![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)
) but play this time as a fighter, and take only Dak'Kon and THe Nameless One, yo uwill find that the stats become inconsequential, the soloing experience was much more fun for me
I can appreciate your POV, although i do not see how not having one stat detracted from the game too much, ok so occasionally you did not get all of the XP you would want, but so what, are we a powergamer perhaps?

It depends on how you play it, @Skeelo. You don't need a lot of intelligence or charisma: you just don't get the benefits that would derive naturally from extra conversational choices and looking or acting "nice." But, you do kill a hell of a lot easier, and you die a lot less.
In a way, it's like Fallout. Some people complain that "the intelligent types are the only way to win," but that's because they want a lot of conversation options: they've pre-defined what area of power they want over the game, and they get annoyed that this doesn't apply to other stats. You can really configure your character in several different ways in P:T, and come out a winner.

You’re certainly entitled to your feelings Skeelo, but I’ve found Planescape to be a very balanced game regardless of what your stats might be. As the others have stated, it all depends on your game-play style and how you go about things. I thoroughly enjoyed Planescape Torment myself.

This topic follows on nicely to an earlier posting I made in this forum: "Would I like it?".
Reading through the comments - for and against - it appears that it's probably more IWD than BG.
It's out on budget now in the UK so I'll probably get myself a copy.
One final question: because it's been around for a couple of years, I assume it plays in 640 x 480 resolution. If this is the case, was their ever an upgrade/ patch to enable the game to be played in 800x600 res? Pretty petty really, but it does change my overall impression of a game.

Yea yea yea. My life was kind of synonymous with the song (I'm short, I played b-ball, I USED to never get laid) so I've been branded Skeelo for life.

Skeelo probably likes that "used to" even better than you.

I really should reinvest some time into this game. I made it into the rich part of town, gaining morte, Dak'kon, Igneous, Annah, and Fall-From_Grace, then stopped playing. Sorta seems like a waste now, do any of you think I should re-start, and finish it?

Don't bother Aegis, get BG2 with ToB. If you quit out of boredom before I'm sure you will again.

Yes, it is a rich tapestry of questions and conundrums. THe story builds to a creshendo unlike BG2's which does not get any better the further you get in the game.

I certainly think you should restart and finish this game. It might not exactly be an instant gratification game, but I really think it's worthwhile. The story is very good, better than BG2.

It also is not riddled with cliches

@Sleep, I agree. P:T broke quite a few conventions, which BG2 (an excellent game) fully supports: the grumbling, greedy dwarf (Korgan), the fragile elf (Aerie), the righteous paladin (Keldorn), etc. And the story in P:T does build in momentum as you get closer to the conclusion. Both are great games, but P:T has the better story, IMO.

@Skeelo: I didn't quite from boredom, I actually had to spot playing and focus some time towards my shcool, ans my grades were dropping. Thats the only reason.
Anyway, looks it's going back on to the comp when I get back to my dad's place.

Is Planescape Torment more on the story or more on fighting? What kind of story is it? Is like that typical I-am-the-hero-have-to-rescue-everyone story or is it like sort of a more psyche/intellectual story where you have to think about a lot of things?

From what I've played of it so far, it's more story orientated. It has it's good fight moments as well, though. In the end, it just depends on how you play the game.

It's certainly got plenty of fighting, but it's definitely more story-oriented. And the story is trying to figure out who your character is, and why, once he's dead, he keeps coming back to life.

It is more story oriented, but you can be quite flexible about how much fighting you want. If you don't like to fight, just create a character high in INT and CHR, and you will be able to talk yourself out of many threatning situations. If you like me enjoy combat, there is plenty to be found
The story is not the stereotype heroic stuff, it's more psychological. You have amnesia and have to find out who you are and why you have become this way. An intriguing story will unfold
