Hi,
Recently i have been playing as a Barbarian and i'm about level 27.
I have been using frenzy assigned to the right mouse button and Double swing assigned to the left mouse button. What i do is Hit Frenzy then lay into the monsters with double swing (with two swords) Is this how frenzy is meant to work? Does frenzy make double swing faster? Or does Frenzy cancel out Double swing? Please help, im confused! I hope i havnt wasted skill points!

Also the runewords displayed on this website are for version 1.09? Is there an updated version somewhere? Or is it just the same?

Please help!

Thanks!

Frenzy- The skill has a duration on it's own, so if you keep hitting enemies with this, you'll get faster and faster, and that'll continue active for six seconds. But if you can deal with the Mana cost, Frenzy is ten times better than Double swing, as it incorporates all the features of double swing and more.

Just to make sure you have understood everything correctly:

You must hit monsters with the frenzy attack to get the bonuses from frenzy.

If you have multiple points invested into frenzy (which you should have if you intend to use the skill) you must hit monsters multiple times to get the full bonus.

If you don't hit anything with frenzy attack for 6 seconds all the bonuses will reset.

Double swing has no benefit over frenzy save lower mana cost.

Don't be to depressed over points invested in double swing though. Even if you never use the skill it still makes your frenzy attacks slightly better as it is a synergy skill.

Thanks for all your help!
One more question: Do i have to keep clicking frenzy or can i just hold down the mouse button it is assigned to?
Thanks again!

Depends, sometimes skills auto-target enemies, especially melee ones. So try right clicking on the plains or grass or wherever you are, and then just wander around until you get near enemies. Keep holding down the right button while you drag your mouse over a creature. It won't highlight the creature, that's to be expected, but if you run it over the creature and it uses frenzy, you can hold it down.

Otherwise, you will have to keep repetitively clicking the right mouse button.

Frenzy will autotarget, so you can hold down the button if you like to. Move him around by moving the mouse still pressing the button.

Putting points in Double Swing is no problem, since you want to max it later anyway - or at least put some points in it - because it is a synergy to Frenzy. It's also useful if you get mana burned. Furthermore, you need Berserk for physically immune monsters later, and since you are never going to use Frenzy and Berserk or Frenzy and Double Swing simultaneously, you can put either Berserk or Double Swing on you left button. I prefer Berserk, but it's a matter of taste. Warcries should be kept at hotkeys so you can use them in the middle of attacking.

Good luck with your Barb!

If you don't want to put points into berserk you can also try to find weapons with the "chance to cast amplify damage" mod. I prefer this solution, even if it's slightly less effective, because you can use more points for warcries.

Hi, I started playing d2 over again after some time (7 years or so and I forgot almost all about d2lod) and have a question about barbarian. Dont mind if I use this thread?

1. Is it worth for barb to take up SPEAR mastery? I mean are there enough solid weapons of this sort to be found in the game compared to swords/axes?

I had played mace and sword mastery in the past with ds, frenzy and ww and feel like a change this time. Any experience on spear-barb?
And please dont tell me all the masteries are the same with barb :)

Thanks

I have no experience with spear barbs, or spear persons even. :o When I look at the stats there are two things I would consider though:

Spears seem to have in general higher dex and lower strength requirement than axes or swords, so your damage will be a bit less even though the spear damage seems comparable.

More runewords can be built in swords and axes than in spears. Look through the runewords before deciding.

Edit: I just realised I'm not sure about stat contribution to damage for spears. It might be that it draws from both strength and dex.

Spear mastery also seems to effect the melee attack with javelins, are you interested in that or just in 2H spears?
