need help in act 3 chapter 6 in dungeon siege 2

How to complete the act 3 chapter 6 in Agallan Trial in dungeon siege ?
Help i am really stuck on this chapter. Ive opened all the waterways and was looking forward to kicking some Agallan Giant ***... spoke to the old man before heading towards the portal when i noticed the bridge to the portal wasnt there. Im really stuck on this and wondered if anyone had had the same problem and how they'd got round it.
Please help!!
