I've been succesfully playing Mass Effect for the last week , encountering numeriuos bugs , but what drove me nuts wasn't a bug (or so do I think).
The end run , where you have to hit the relay in 40 secs. I end up at zero at the and of that small "lake". Tried 10 times. I can't reach it. Any Ideas ? I've been swearing so hard , i didn't knew before that I know those words...

Just ignore all enemies and drive toward the conduit. Don't worry about damage. I made it on my first attempt.

It is a bug it seems that several people have.

Some suggest to simply put your graphic settings down, since it might be the performance screwing it up. Lag or something.
