In Durlags tower I'm stuck in the room where there are four wardens which ask you riddles. I've made the mallet, hit the gong, started up the engine but when I go to the wine press it still says that the "wine press is in working order but doesn't have any power", am I missing something?

Bear in mind it has been a long time so i am pulling this out of the depths
IIRC there is a room before the wine press that has an engine in it, one has to place a handle or wheel (something like that) on the switch in the top corner of the room and turn the engine on.
Hopefully that has been of some help.

Theres an odd looking key you pick up from a small pile of treasure. (Looking the map the room is in the bottom near the engine room)
You take it to a room near the area a but southwest of the key room, and unlock a chest where you get the switch to power the engine.

You also have to teh the book quest in which you read 4 books in the library, and a gem quest, get a glittering bejuril gem.
The wardern are really tough.
The south wardern is a mage, the north is a fighter or thief. the west is a fighter, the east is a cleric.

As I had already said in my first post, I've already switched the engine on. Does that mean there is a bug in my game???

That might be the solution that you are looking for, however the likeliness of finding the patch from another source is doubtful, you might be able to get fileplanet to ship it too you over CD if one was so inclined.
There might also be a simpler and less expensive answer, try a few more things with it before resorting to such elaborate methods.
You could copy all the files in your override folder into a folder called override_2 (or something like that) for back up purposes in case this doesn't work (

) and then start the game up leaving the orignial override folder in tact minus the removed files. That might help.
if any of that didn't make sense i can always re-iterate
