For the first time in all my years playing Diablo II, I came in contact with duped items, or so some other players told me, when a few of my runes and a newly found Stone of Jordan just vanished.

I was wondering if there is any way to tell whether or not an item is duped. Either before you trade for one or after you get it.

Any help on the matter is appreciated.

As far as I know there is no way to tell, however, higher runes are duped almost without exception. Stones of Jordan where duped a lot previously, but I don't know if this still is the case.

There is no way to unequivocally tell if an item is duped or not, however common dupes are usually documented by their stats and sometimes ilvl or appearance. Of course, someone could say have a legitimate 20/20/xx anni, but you should always assume items of any significant rarity are duped. That is to say, all perf/near perf PvP items should be assumed to be duped and unperm unless vouched by a respectable player.

Is there a list of duped items?

Some people told me that an alternative to getting SoJs is to get Bul Kathos' Wedding Band, which are not duped. Is this true?

High runes are a real pain to find, so of course trading for hacked content is rather demoralizing when trying to build your character.

True BK rings are far less duped than SoJ. While the +1 skills is the same the rest is not and the 2 have very different uses. But if all you are looking for is +1 skills go for it. My advice for high runes is not to trade for them until you are ready to use them. Once socketed into an item they are permanent. In my experience the most duped item on B-Net is the Lo rune. I have personally had 5 of them go poof

The character I'm getting these items for is a Hammerdin, so SoJ's mana is welcome, however I'm thinking about just sticking with the BK rings just because of lowered chance of them being duped.

some common duped items would include

bb / bt
32020
all hr
also all good 08 items (rares and unique)
and pretty much all perfect runewords.

and some item has never been permed, like the bugged atma boots and the bugged steelclash gloves, so they will always poof 100%

it also depend on witch server you play on, my main server is europe and we do have a few permed bb / bt but east and west has NONE, they never had any permed in the first place, so they will poof 100%
