Character type question

I was wondering if the chosen character type affects anything beyond the starting style. Essentially what I want to know is, if I make a fast character and a magic character, hit custom to give them the same exact stats on creation, is there any difference between them apart from thousand fists / leaping tiger? Is a leaping tiger "magic-type" character possible to develop as a fighter?
you'll get huge stat boosts and can buy the other styles later
