I tried searches here and on a few other forums and couldn't find anything useful. If I'm being a dolt kindly let me know.

I've played through ME a couple of times and have unlocked the Medal of Honor achievement. In all respects I believe the Hardcore difficulty setting should be available to me, but whenever I attempt to change the gameplay in the options menu it won't allow me to select it.

I've tried to alter the changes with a new character, a pre-existing character, and a pre-existing character imported to a new game. Trying to change the settings in the main menu, on the Normandy prior to the first mission, and after landing on Eden Prime doesn't seem to work.

I wouldn't put it past myself to be doing something goofy, but is this maybe a bug? I'm on the Xbox 360 version if that's of any importance.

What does it say when you try to select it when starting new game?
Can't remember what the prerequirements for HC difficulty was, but if you haven't met them then it's stated there.

And for me it did work, and I play on XBox 360 as well.

The setting is there in the menu, but in the description it does say "Must be unlocked". On the official forums I was told that this does not mean the achievement isn't unlocked; I should be able to select it all the same. It simply will not allow me to select the new mode (attempting to change the setting just gets the invalid sound). I'm not sure why it's doing this as I've only had a few bugs with the game before that were fixed with a quick reload.

Im pretty sure you have to beat the game once on any difficulty or on the highest difficulty available. I unlocked Hardcore doing one or the other.

I was able to route the issue. It involved moving the storage device and loading the game up on my friends' console, but ultimately I am playing with the Hardcore difficulty now. Thanks guys.
