Which class to use when you want to solo through BG1?

It would really have to be a fighter class, it might be possible to use a cleric class but that would make thigns more difficult, i have soled BG many times with a fighter, only once with a cleric ;)

Multi-class works best. Since you're soloing you'll level up real fast. F/M/T, you can't go wrong with that.

Perhaps, but one must know of the fights expected to be able to use this combination effectively :)

F/M/T in BG1 only has one weapon slot which can be a real disadvantage.
Switching between range weapon and melee ones are not possible.

Also since ranged attacks are so devastating in BG1 (which they incidentally toned down for BG2) it is a shame not to be able to stick to it if possible. Yet if one uses only melee then they are removing a very useful class of weapons.

Yeah, you're right about the weapon thing, I forgot about that. Then again, you can solve that somewhat by using a LOT of magic missile ;)

Or you could use a weapon that has melee AND missile abilities, such as the throwing axe.

I plan on Soloing BG1 with a Fighter/Mage/Thief. The weapon slot problem is solved by having TotSC installed is it not? IIRC, mages get two slots with TotSC installed instead of just the one.

My F/M/T in IWD has the one-weapon slot problem, but at least in there the game stays paused when you switch to the inventory screen.

Yes mages gets two slots but F/M/T still remains as one slot.

Dunno...I think GameBanshee is the only board that I've let Mistress 9 make an appearance at. :)

The 3 classes that don't have 2 slots are: Cleric/Thief, Mage/Thief, Fighter/Mage/Thief.

Probably one of the best class to solo in BG1 is an elven fighter/thief.
Tried and tested.
