Has anybody gone through Bg1 with just a fighter, solo ? I'm planning on starting all over again, and would like to hear opinions?
Or fighter/thief, or fighter/cleric maybe ?

fighter/cleric will be very doable. As soon as you've got animate dead, you're home free.

Hm, is it possible to solo BG1 at all? well, maybe being a magiciam with lotsa summon wands.. Sarevok would kill any skeleton in a few moments, and he cant be beaten by any fighter in melee, his equipment and skills beats any player character. Unless you cheat that is..

The ranger may have Stealth, but that's all he's go going for him.
With the Cleric Multiclass, you get more clerical spells than the Ranger does, and with the fighter class, you can furhter specialize with a weapon.
Ranger/Cleric is no good.

Soling in BG1 seems to be possible, there are some topics about it on page 2.
It's also possible to beat Sarevok one on one with a fighter, if the fighter is maxed out and has the right equipment and potions.

I would go for a thief class. Backstab can realy come in handy when soloing.
Or maybe a fighter/mage/thief, combine all 3 classes, then you can cast protection spells, to make up for the lack of armour, use shields, use ranged weopons, and backstab/openlocks/traps etc. everything you'll need exept healing,
but then again, you'll have lot's of healing potions!!!!
The biggest problem is the lack of inventory space! but you don;t need that much money anyway!

It's easiest to solo BG1 with a figher imo.
I've done it quite a few times, and Sarevok can be taken one on one.
If you solo you can get a full plate armour, long sword +2 ring of protection +1 and all those kind of stuff at level 2 or 3, which makes you practically unhitable until the bossfight in chapter 3.
As for taken on Sarevok one on one, just let him follow you (well, he always does) and let him be affected by Semaj's dispel magic spell (or is it a trap?). That takes care of his haste, and makes him a lot easier. Use all your potions and still can't handle him, I would suggest using the warhammer +2 with electrical damage as your primary weapon - that gives you a "+4 THACO" if you usually use swords as he wears a full plate (+4 bonus to AC vs slashing and +0 against blunt)
And if you wanna be cheesy, use a bow with boots or speed combined with a potion of speed. - This works best if you've dispelled his haste.

Easiest solo (imho) of BG1 is with a thief - you can just hide from everything. I got through it all (not ToSC expansion) with only 6 kills by the time I hit the final battle. Some of those kills were not even necessary.
The reason I say "easiest" is because of the sneaking - you don't have to fight much so you never have to worry about a big fight, like in Tazok's tent or a group of mercenaries or anything. Run and hide, man.
I also followed the fastest path, doing almost none of the side quests for experience. I did a few side quests which did not require kills (by the way, if anybody else wants to try this - the enchanted chicken quest requires 2 kills - doh!) Be sure to steal Algernon's cloak and charm the pants off the Sword Coast! Make others do your dirty work!
Now, if you want to squeeze more out of the game and walk around and see things while soloing, I would suggest a fighter type or a fighter/thief. That would make some battles very sweet - use a potion of giant strength, then get in some mighty backstabs! Rawr!

Actually, soloing fighter in BG is possible, and is in fact quite easy(even I can do it). As for the fight with Sarevok, just get a lot of potions(speed, healing, invisibility, giant strength, heroism, etc) and you'll be OK.
