Sorry?
Do you mean Daveorn?
Your level does not determine what chapter you should be in, your progression in the main plotline does.
If you have done most of the non-plotline related quests and areas it is possible to be a fairly high level before reaching the cloakwood mines.
Have you defeated Mulahey, and Tranzig?

The Nashkell Mines are a total stroll in the park if you explore most of the wilderness before going there. :D

One of the tougher parts of the game was when I tried to leave Cloakwood. I would nearly always get a random encounter with two Wyverns... The only fight in the whole game that I ran from.

Yea, that fight is a bit tough, but doable, esp. with Call Lightning. The random encounter I run away from is where the game throws a basilisk and other assorted baddies at you.

@Craig: To get to the Cloakwood Mines, exit Cloakwood Map #4 on the eastern side.

They are basically the same trigger, when you leave the left hand side of the friendly arm inn section, you should be greeted with the the beginning of the cloakwood section.

The spider Bane part is quite difficult, just be wary of traps.

OK are you talking aobut Cloakwood mines or the Bandit Camp?

Have you done all the quests up to that point if you haven't done the quests up to (and past) the bandit camp then you can not enter into the cloakwood mission.

I suffered from a bug once where I first cleaned out the Bandit Camp and then realized I've never spoken to Tazok... The entire game continuity was completely messed up, I couldn't enter Cloakwood or Baldurs Gate and I had to reload it and replay a big part of the game... :(

I've never spoken to Tazok at all! He wasn't in his tent. However, there was some captive Amnish spy in there that told me all I needed to know (which was a lot less than what I wanted to know, of course  ).

No you don't have to talk to him

Tazok isn't in his tent. You'll have to go to the Peldvale forest forest I believe until a thief in the middle of the map starts to talk to you. If you show enough loyalty and bloodthirst at the same time, he will lead you to a cutscene with Tazok, after which you will automatically end up in the bandit camp...

Believe me on this one, craig, my game was f*cked up and when I tried to restore the problems by going out to talk to Tazok anyway after killing everyone in the bandit camp, my game horribly crashed...
Ah well, but perhaps I was suffering from more bugs, who knows... :(

@Grojlach: I've never had to talk to Tazok to be able to access the the Cloakwood Forest. However, I do recall one game where I forgot to take the letters from the trapped chest in Tazok's tent (taking them triggers the next chapter), so I couldn't get to the first Cloakwood area from the Friendly Arm Inn map. I finally remembered that I forgot to check the chest, went back and got the letters, and everything was fine from there. This may be craig's problem.

Well, as I already said before, perhaps I had more problems than just that one, and it's been a while...
Though I did remember my game freezing when I talked to Tazok afterwards, heck, even completely crashing down my computer! Twice!
I also remember not being able to get inside the big city because I didn't pick up Daevorns key and scrolls right after I killed him and rested first... His stupid key and scrolls just disappeared! While picking them up should bring you into the next chapter...
*sigh*
Such a pity small details like that could ruin hours of gameplay... :(

How many times do we have to tell you, loot, pillage THEN burn!

The triggers for the plot advancement are the document - get them any way you can, and you're set. All the rest is window dressing - but fun :)
