I am experiencing a strange issue with Firefox 3.5 (fully updated).

When I enter a search query at Google, Bing etc, the usual first page with a list of URLs will appear along with a bunch of numbered URLs at the bottom of the page.

However, when I try to click on those numbers, or even if I try to click "Next," nothing happens. Firefox remains on the first page of my search. This happens regardless of whether I enter a search on my toolbar, in the address bar or at the search engine's home page.

I've looked around and so far have not seen anything, I've tried disabling my add-ons one by one, and I've also tried reinstalling Firefox. Nothing has worked.

I can search fine in all other browsers (Opera, Safari etc.)

I'm baffled, so any insights would be appreciated.

You can neither click on the numbers nor the "next" arrow?
But every other link on the page works fine?

Does the mouse cursor change shape to the pointer (hand) instead of the arrow when hovering over the links?

I get the most bizarre computer bugs...
The other links, though a bit slow to load, seem to work.
Actually yes, the pointer does change to a hand...

You don't have cookies disabled for those searchers, do you, by any chance?

I'm pretty sure I don't, I just checked to make sure nothing relating to cookies was disabled....

It can't be cookies, there's no cookie which can block a browser from clicking on a link.

It's also not scripts as those links are normal hyper links, so unless you've somehow been infected with something which takes over your FireFox's behaviour on Google, I fail to see many possible reasons.

Do you get any message or anything when clicking one of the links? Any script errors?

You can install a plug in/add on called HttpWatch (http://www.httpwatch.com/), then try to record what happens when you press a link. There's a free basic version which also works on FireFox.

I'll try running some scans, though I'm reasonably sure my system is clean. I get no messages, script errors or anything like that.

OK... HPPT Watch sniffed out the issue.. it was the one add-on I had forgotten to try disabling. It's called "Surf Canyon," and basically helps to narrow down searches.
Too bad.. it would have been a handy tool.. *sigh*
