Unseeing Eye Level.

I haven't played this game in 8 years and lets just say that I still love this game.

I have beaten the beholder and need to make my way back up to the cult lair, but there is a purple highlighted door which cannot be opened/picked... how the hell do I get out of the beholder's area?

That door does seem to have a lag issue. You could try going back into the Beholders Lair and then come out again but don't do anything for about a 30sec and then try clicking it.
And if that doesn't work you could always ClUAConsole your party back to the sewars.

I have gone back to the lair... walked around... slept.

Tried to open the door, and it remains locked.

I don't want to cheat, but I'm guessing that I might have to.

Are you talking about the secret door to leave the beholder area - the door to the left of the area where you defeat the beholder? If so all the door should be open in order to get out - but if that door is not open I think you can just walk back out the same way you went in, in order to complete this quest and reach the first level and defeat the rest of the unseeing eye cult members.

I didn't think you could go back out of the "Ghoul Bridge" area to the cult area. The entrance is described as a pit and the "Ghoul Lord" says something about them tossing people down to the great feeder, so I'd imagine its at least pretty hard to get back up.

I have however never tried that.

Jordoo is right. I did this quest recently and can confirm that you can't go back the way you came in (through the Ghoul Bridge Area).

It seems to be a reoccurring but occasional problem. Try using CTRL+J.

Never seen it not opening. Maybe once or twice you'll get the message that the door is locked, but it should open up after that.

Nothing works.

I try sleeping... going back down the stairs to the beholder lair... going back up tot he lair... sleeping again. Try picking the lock... nothing works. CTRL+J doesn't do anything... I don't know how to enable cheats, and really don't want to... is that it then? There's nothing else for me to do :(

Except enable cheats. Because you seem to be at a deadend, otherwise. It's up to you.

Follow this path.

How do I pull up the cheat window in game?

And what is the ClUAConsole?

CTRL+Space. The CLUA Console is sometimes referred to as the cheat window, though you can create effects are more than cheats in it.

I really must be doing something wrong, because I have Cheats=1 under the Game Options line in baldur.ini file and if I hit CTRL+Space all it does is pause and unpause.

I don't know what to do and I feel kind of simple.

Cheats=1 dont work for some versions.

Add Debug Mode=1 under [Program Options] and try again :)

OR if you have time - you can replay the entire unseeing eye quest from an earlier point and see if it happens again.

Edit: Never mind Stworca already posted what I did, oops.

My problem when I am playing this game, is that I save over previous saved files once I progress. Not realizing that games do get bugs and sometimes you have to go back to redo a level. This is my case here.

I have tried everything that you guys have told me. Cheats=1 and Debug Mode=1

I still am not able to pull up a cheat mode with CTRL+Space.

Does anyone know what I'm doing incorrectly?

I hear you, but I still remember how bugged up BGII was when it first came out so I usually have about 6-8 saves of my current game. Always keep saves before I leave fr spell hold and as I change chapters, before starting major quest and the like. Honestly though now with the official patch and the G3 fixpack I rarely have major issues even though I have anywhere from 4-10 Mods running at once.
