A old(great Wyrm) red Dragon turn in dracolich (the Dragon gives 24.000 XP plus 1000 for the lich status) that is very nasty monster but the most powerful is the Tarrasque 107.000 XP.but there is ONLY one Tarrasque know.
Red Dragon
AC -11
Magic resistance 65%

Terrasque(since the is only one)
AC -3
HP 300
THAC0 -5
No. of Attacks 6
Damage Attacks 1-12/1-12/2-24/5-50/1-10/1-10
Special Attacks Sharpess bite/ terror
Special defenses Immune to all heat and fire, regenerate 1 HP at every round, can only be hit by +1 weapons.
Can only be killed if HP get to -30 and use a wish spell.(if not he will regenerate back but it will take a long time)

Sword of Tarrasque killing anyone?
(I am editing because I made a mistake before)

The Tarrasque is recommended as a challange for an experienced party of characters of levels 20+. This creature is the equivalent of the Faeruns leviathan, an instrument of the gods.

I will not go into boring details, as the Tarrasque has been a focus of discussion at many times, but it's a reptilelike creature, looking roughly like a Tyranosaurus Rex, with such incredibly powerful abilities that facing it unprepared and without a VERY good battle plan means certain defeat. It's a creature even the planar powers loathe to to even venture near. It's also the most practical way for a GM, such as myself, to finally and forever remove a party of munchkin characters imported from a Monty Haul campaign.

I very much hope that the Tarrasque will not figure in ANY crpg. Heck! One could just as well automaticly reboot the computer for the players.

The most powerful creature in Faerun is in my opinion not the ones that gives the highest amounts of XP. Instead it is those that are able to hold a lot of power over the characters themselves. A remember a certain blackmailing goblin that held a few players in terror for half a campaign and they didn't get any xp at all for killing him since it was accidental. Image

Oh shoot! Seems I was typing too slowly again. Image They should have a post alert when someone else beats you to the punch.

Hmmm... Though I do remember that a certain fell beast named Kazgaroth, a minion of Bhaal, was not exactly a sunday picnic to face either. Scary creature that. Imagine a very formidable Tyranosaurus Rex that can't be hit with normal weapons and also has the ability to posses minds of mortals, shapechange at will, cause lycantrophy and create a special powerful form of undeads to follow it's orders.

Wasn't there the Horn of Kazgaroth in BG1?

Yes, that is on the moonshes islands. The "druid queen" novel (no I have not read it) one of its horns and one of this Claws were in BG I. nasty thing, but its Dead now.

IMHO, the Tarrasque, while an amazing creature belongs in the world, but not in the game (if you get my meaning). There should always be some creature or challenge that the party is simply not up to, and this is one of them. A party should never be in a position where they have proven themselves to be on parr with the gods; this is not the intent of the AD&D rules (read them if you don't belive me). A good use of the Tarresque would be to include him in the game (unbeatable, as well he should be) in an optional quest to humble munchkins and powermongers.

Oh and a Banshee, AD&D style, is nothing one would want to get close either. The spell "Wail of the Banshee" was named that for a reason. Urgh! Hate them undeads. Why can't the gods create cute and huggable monsters instead of mean and psycotich ones?

Monster: From the latin word Moneo meaning warning. Monsters thus serves as the gods way to warn mortals of what may be lest they change their ways. Not to mention that they serve as a warning to the gods about what the mortals may become if they don't do their job right. :/

A terrasque can be killed but its very hard, If you are playing with Very high PC running out of Powerful monsters happens a lot, so DM put this things to give a real challange.
If you kill one (how I ask) you should be real proud. Now the DM just have to come with something else.
Dracolich Are in my opinion 10 times harder.A dragon is Bad news but a Undead Dragon is even far Worst)

just curious: Asking all the DMs and P&P-players, how long does it actually take in P&P to get a party at those highest levels? I mean I had been playing for several years and never even came close to it.

that depends on the adventures played and the XP that the DM gives for quests.
The Highest I got was a Ranger lv7 that I play in the summer during a underdark adventure.
