HotU inability to make relic of the reapers work at ALL

I have 7 rogue stones (and, of course, the relic of the reaper itself). I have placed bindings (two as of this date) ... I have tried wearing the ring and NOT wearing the ring ... I tried right clicking on it hoping to see travel to a binding 1 - 5; I have died quite a few times with no offer or actual rescue or even mention of the Land of the Reapers or whatever, no less actually GOING there ... I have it patched/updated to the final 1.69 version ... I canNOT figure out why it doesnt work ... sigh ...
... not to mention I have NOT seen a faq ANYwhere that actually describes the process of how to jump between bindings ... only saying that you CAN.
Other info ... Quad intel 2.4 GH CPU with 2 GB RAM (running Vista Home Edition 32 bit OS (running NWN and its modules in XP SP2 compatibility mode)) and a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT video card which all seems to handle the game with all video options wide open with no problem. I started the HotU module with a premade character (from SoU).
I am an old school gamer but canNOT figure out this problem. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it and knows a solution ?
I would be very thankful for any and all insights as to what the problem could possibly be ...
