I just *know* I'm going to go 'D'OH!' when I get the response, but this is a definite spoiler request...

Where the #%!^ is the handle for the mallet so that I can strike the gong and what do I use to repair whatever is broken at the forge? Do I need a hammer/what? And do I just repair a broken sword?

Thanks!

According to Dan Simpson's FAQ it is in a barrel to the southwest of the 4 warders.

Like I said...'D'oh!'...now I just need to answer the warrior warder. The one who gabbles on about the 'warrior's fate'... I read someplace else that it deals with a gem. I thought I had it, but now it's gone. Is it in one of those piles of gems and jewelry? Betcha I go, 'D'oh!' again! <G>

I dont remember where the gem is, but when you find it the description will tell you in no uncertain terms that it's something that you don't want to sell.

In Durlag's Tower it's best to get in the habit of checking every inch of every room. Items (and traps) are being hidden in places that you wouldn't expect based on earlier experiences in the game (ie. the sparing dummies, gargoyles on the wall).

As for repairing the mallet, there is an anvil in the northwest room that you click on when you have both parts.

Finally, the best I can tell, the broken weapons that you find are red herrings and can be ignored.

Good luck getting part those Warders...
