Help with Critical Strike!

1. Ok, I realize I may sound really dumb asking this, but in KotOR 2 for the feat Master Critical Strike it says: "Master Critical Strike works with melee weapons only."

Does this literally mean that it will only work with "melee weapons" and not "lightsabers?" I ask because they are quite specific in separating "melee weapons" and "lightsabers" in many other instances in the game such as "Finesse: Melee Weapons" and "Finesse: Lightsabers".

2. I also want to verify my calculations for Master Critical Strike and adding a Keen ability to a standard lightsaber. Most importantly I suppose, is Master Critical Strike cumulative with keen? If so, how do they add up?

I came up with: Standard Lightsaber critical strike on a roll of 19-20
+ Keen (multiply critical threat by 2) = 17-20
+ Master Critical Strike (multiply critical threat by 4) = 5-20

aka: 80% chance for a critical strike.

Can this be possible? I have a hard time either believing that they stack, or that they stack in that way.

Thanks so much for bearing with me on these really basic questions that have probably been answered a hundred times.

Master Critical strike works for both lightsabers and regular melee weapons.

As for the Keen ability + Master Critical strike, I believe the final threat range would be 11-20, not 5-20 as per your calculations. Don't quote me on that though.

You should think of it as an addition, not a multiplication. Keen just increases in the Critical Range by one base step. Loki was right, so I should have quoted him on it. ;-)

Thanks for the help guys. Does anyone know how to calculate it though? Because even though 11-20 looks more realistic, I still cannot figure out how to come up with that number. And Loki[D.d.G] says not to quote him on it, so can anyone else confirm that is what the critical threat would be?

It should be: 19 - (2 x 4) = 11

Again, I'm not a 100% sure :o

You start with the base threat range, i.e. 19-20. Each multiplier adds the same range, that is, a "double" means 17-20, "triple" 15-20, "quadruple" 13-20 and "quintuple" 11-20.
If the base threat is simply 20, it would simply add one at each stage.

Awesome, thanks so much. That makes complete sense.
