This is one of the games that I like to give my impression. This game is similar to HotU in that both are built for multiclass and although MotB is turn based game, it can be played most of the time the same as HotU, I mean you don't have to stop and prepare for gameplay. The graphics and story lines are both much better than HotU. I can only say that The music is VERY pretty since I can't find the right word for it. The number of classes allowed in MotB is 4 instead of 3 in HotU and it's is a real plus. The story line is beautiful and although people like to compare it to a drug story, I would much prefer to consider it litterally as a story of a hero who fight to regain his/her soul from a bad god.

I have completed 3 times and look forward to finish 6 more which all reach Skein City. Hehe! This is a game you should play since there is not many good rpgs out there. Risen is probably good but with its crazy 3 max activation limit, it will have to wait. :laugh:

Vanilla game :

Neverwinter is a great game, on a good engine, using perfect (D&D) rules. The music, as you said, is nice, and interactions - as in most RPGs - are awesome.
But unfortunately its completely, absolutely linear. Except for very minor decissions (that lead to the same quests anyway) and the ending, there is nothing that allows player to change -anything-. The only thing that is not 99,5% linear is trading. You -cant- tell NPCs to get lost, no matter what you say they will join you, and even tho you are able to end their existance later, it does not affect the storyline in the slightest. There just isnt any way to say "No, i DONT WANT YOU IN MY PARTY! As a matter of fact i'd rather kill you!"
When you play for the first time, its nice that the storyline is so complicated, and that the road to discover even a slightest clue is very long and hard. But when you look at it again, the overcomplicated 'solutions' to some problems are just silly. The devs seemed to be out of ideas at some points, and honestly i almost expected to get a "Kill 10000 rats and then i'll tell you where my brother is" quest at some point. Luckily it wasnt that bad.

The side-quests are nice, esp. Neeshka's ones, but far too small part of the game for my taste.

The combat system is very nice, and i enjoyed it fully, but the game is mostly about fighting. Even the smallest thief bands have 6 milion members, and you have to finish them all. Sometimes it just feels like a H'n'S game sadly. You have to fight every single creature that you encounter (with very few exceptions if you have high diplomacy etc.)
except for those, that you REALY want to kill (or am i the only one who wanted to kill all the annoying quest NPCs that just kept asking for doing mundane tasks over and over again). It wouldn't be so bad if there was a good motivation for the player to participate. Part one had a nice one, fight for survival.. But later on what prevented me from leaving? Especially if you play neutral or evil character? Why stay?

I'd give it an 6/10 overall. If it wasnt so damn linear in every way possible, it would be a 9,5/10

MoTB was much better story-wise, and therefore a much greater game. It fixed many things present in vanilla, and was very enjoyable.

Well, yes. I referred to MotB actually. In both NWN and NWN 2, the expansions are better ( HotU and MotB ).

BTW, I measure a game by what I felt about it, not because it is more or less linearity.
