Stuck in the OC

Just bought the game, and started up the default campaign in what I hope will at least be an entertaining romp. Anyway, onto my issue:

I just got the you-know-what from the ruins in the you-know-where that my "dad" sent me to get. But my companion isn't starting the conversation that he was supposed to start in order to progress the quest according t othe walkthrough. (I hasten to add that I only went to the WT AFTER I trekked all the way back to town and my dad thought I was empty-handed.) So... that means I'm stuck, maybe due to a bug?

Is there any way I can get DM control and maybe manually flip the trigger for the convo/get the quest forward?

Or do I have to patch? Which willl be done manually some time when I have access to something faster than 28K dial-up internet.

Patching is performed by the DVD ROM startup screen. The NWN2 Vault, ALSO has patches available (..in smaller more manageable portions). They must be sequentially patched.

You can always startup a new game, or load from previous save. One of the "Tips" the game is fond of displaying is the near mantra of:

"Save early, save often".. or something like that.

Note that you have only progressed about 2% into the game, so a complete restart isn't a bad idea. ;)

Restarting my adventure seems to have fixed it, though I also seem to have manually downloaded the wrong set of files. Should have snagged the "pcx1" set and not just the "pc" set as I have the Mask of The Betrayer eXpansion, the 1st in the series... Anywho, thank you very much for the links, I will be using them correctly at my next possible convenience.
