Cross Class Specializations

I wonder how effective it would be to give your character a specialization outside their class? (Example: Giving a mage say Champion/War Cries chain or Bard/Songs chain for their 2nd specialization)

I don't see why you couldn't do this. Has anyone tried it?

Thoughts/Opinions on feasibility of doing so if its allowed?

It is impossible. Any book you can learn specializations from will have a class requirement. Any trainer will have the same.

If you are talking about teaching your mage to do poisons or lock picking...I think you can do this. I don't recall seeing those blocked out when I'm inputting my skills at level-up. I'll have to double check next time.

Poisons, Stealing, Herbalism, etc are all available for all classes. Class specific things like Stealth or Lock Picking are only available to the Rogue, just like spells are only open to Mages.

There are two separate things being discussed here. You can certainly take skills that perhaps aren't traditionally part of the class (herbalism or stealing with a warrior), but you cannot take specializations that do not belong to the class (so no berserker mages or spirit healer rogues).

Yes, so the answer to the OP is still "not possible."
