Thinking about it, but I'm afraid (due to how ranged rules this game) it will make it far too easy!

Then set his level lower. Or take in party NPCs who aren't that strong as his companions. Or set artificial barriers to progress, such as an inability for your party to use fire arrows. There are all sorts of ways to hobble this.
