Exactyl how does magic resistance work? If you have, for example 20% resistance do you have a 20% chance to resist a magical attack? There seem to be more than than as Carsomyr almost makes you invulnerable to magic.

yeah, the enemy has 20% chance of failure on casting magic on you.
the real magic resistance in real AD&D is pretty hard to get, having 50% magic resistance is fatal to a mage...

You have give yourself the answer.
After magic Resistance is made if its pass the savings come to place. so you can fail a magic resistance and make a saving. Remember that some spells bypass the Magic Resistance.

In this game it's also cumulative. So, 2 rings of Gaxx, Carsomyr, and that Amulet of magic resistance from the drow city will give you an 80% magic resistance.

in one game 20% was(i think)20% + so you had naturaly 10 and plus 50% 15
