Facebook: uploading audio files

Now that I've been lured into the Satanic realm of Facebook by BuckGB, I was wondering if there was anyway to put audio files for click-on-and-listen on homepages. There's a tab for videos, but it apparently only works with video files, and will not accept standard audio. For all I know, this may be deliberate: while videos can be made at home, most people would probably just upload audio files they had to share, and Facebook may be concerned about standard copyright breaches. (Or breeches, the kind of pants that are made out of 100% polyester law. Very binding.) Am I stuck being unable to attach audio files to my homepage?

Facebook has purdied up the basic http hyperlinking feature. You can probably make well use of that if your audio files have some kind of source page. It is already possible to add designated links to many types of streaming music services, merely by copy-pasting their urls into your "what's on your mind" box. That also includes Youtube, Myspace and whatnot.
It may not be uploaded this way, but you can still present it quite nicely.

Thing is, what I do to is upload an audio file to my homepage, for people to listen to, rather than link out to one. And there's no option to do that from the "What's on your mind" box. I tried doing it through video, but was told it didn't support my MP3 file.

As far as I'm aware, you can't upload music to your particular facebook profile right away. You might want to do a search of facebook applications (there's a ton you can add to your profile), try clicking on the Applications tab in the facebook taskbar at the bottom of the window.
Beyond that, I know you can upload music for fan pages and the like.

Upload your audiofile to a service like
tindeck, and then share a link to the file. Your audio will be available under 'links' on your page.

That sounds relatively straightforward. I'll give it a try, thanks. A quick, tangential question: is there anyway I can put up links to sites or audio files without first sharing them on my Wall?

No, not to my knowledge. Through your wall you add content. Pictures and even applications publish messages on your wall as you use them. That's what Facebook is, a picture archive with a livejournal/twitter type board system.
It's not even a good picture site, the resolution of the things you upload is kept pretty small. It's all the fluff around it that has made it popular and keeps the social networking interesting.

I think it should be possible to make a wall post, then remove it. Your file will still be under links, but the wall post will be gone, so no one will know you've put up a link unless they specifically checked your posted links.

Tried it, but it didn't work: if it's removed from the wall, it's removed from links. Damn.
