Regarding dialogue

Hey everyone, it has been a long time since I last played this game. I wanted to play the game as a Ranger/Cleric, seeing as I have heard a lot of good things about them.

Now I always play a silver-tongued character, talking his way out of situations. I was wondering however what stats I need to make my character more persuasive. Do I need intelligence to do so?

I was also wondering what my starting stats should look like. I already know you can get a nice ring for charisma, so that stat doesnt need a lot of raising.

Thanks for the help! :-)

Unfortunately, and unlike other CRPG's (here's looking at you, Fallout), the Character stats don't really affect the dialogue. I can only recall a couple of occasions where Charisma (not Intelligence) can grant you a better reward (and they are all in BG1). So put your Stats where your Cleric/Ranger needs them: STR, DEX, CON and WIS and you can ignore INT and CHA.

You can, however, still play as a silver-tongued hero. Just choose the appropriate dialogue options. :)

INT, WIS and CHA will all affect whether or not you get certain dialog choices, but very rarely and often if there's an NPC with a high value they'll chime in anyway. Of the 3 you want to focus mostly on WIS.

If you want to be silver-tongued, Planescape: Torment easily has most games beat.

You'll get a 18 CHA ring very early in the game so you don't need to worry about that either
