Can I get back to the mainlands again?

After pursuing imoen and irenicus to the secret island, is it possible to return to the mainland again later? Because I want to finish certain quests later, like the troll castle or such.

So if I take the portal I can't get back to the mainland? Don't spoil anything more than that

He's not saying the portal won't eventually lead back to the mainland. He's saying that there are more opportunities if you take the ship.
