With the mods installed I listed here, everything seemed honkey-dorey. Until I tried to run a game five minutes ago...

No matter how I attempt to run the game I get the same error, it wants CD 255, then CTD.

Help!!!

NVM, a determined search (on the Tutu Forum), yielded this result if anyone else has the same problem.

Got to program options, Disable Movies=1

/Me sighs

Now I get another error, after assigning proficiencies to my sorcerer I get Blue Screen of Death with a message saying something like BG Fail, insert CD1.

Then assertation fail message, assertation fail in ChDimm.cpp at line 834. And reinstalling does not help, assigning the weapon proficiencies and moving to next step that triggers it. Or starting the game at all after character creation.

Do you realise that in 6 years of BG I have never once gotten Tutu to work properly? There must be a hex on me :-(

/me sighs and goes to bed.

And the thread here did not help much, I did try to reinstall and the INI is definately not read only, for I just changed something in it- the movies. As for the Alias section... that might be it, for I have no idea what that is.

ow, my head hurts.

I would recommend:

1. a good registry clean up

2. a much simpler mod install philosophy

3. some jam. I prefer raspberry.

With butter, on a soft white roll. Mmmm.

My head KILLS, I should probably start a thread about it, but it doesn't warrant it at all. I've spent the past two days pickpocketing Amnish Legionaries for a Mordenkainen's Sword scroll, for the amulet, to find that I don't want it because I HATE items with charges. Even if the have 50 :P

And that's not even why my head hurts. I've just spent three hours buying every suit of armour in the game to make my party of four look pretty. AGH! Now would I wear leather, chain, or full plate? Surely I wouldn't wear full plate unless on horseback, but it does look nice...

Too chunky maybe? But I don't like the colours on ashen scales... And oh no my AC is now pitiful. Can't have two people wearing black... And my head hurts again.

Sorry thread starter, I deserve a good hard kick in the balls - crushing damage? Maybe I should wear full plate...

Well... as I am a viking fighting re-enactor, I will probably use my two-handed spear to poke that onion-sack ;-)

I tried uninstalling, deleting all and reinstalling with less mods. I suspect that the second-hand PC I got for playing BG is not as clean as the various scanners I have used claims it is (after having killed off 118 spybots and 3 viruses).

I'm telling you, clean your registry as well.

I just did, it still does not work. I can play plain BG I though- without Tutu, and have played BGII with those exact mods. So what I plan to do is to uninstall all, delete all mods. Reinstall with only the fixpack, SCSII and Tutu and see if that works.

I think I found the problem...

As I do not have the Original saga- but an even later 4 DVD+CD set, I patched the game, but it says here, on Bioware's own site that I should not have...

Methinks I have found it, it sounds very much like what happens at any rate...

It did not... now I am at a loss as what to do, final idea is that it may be because I have patched ToB or because I did not custom install BG I... oh well... 01.51 on a Sunday/Monday, so bedtime. Except my ferret is dooking about in no mood to sleep or be quiet.

You MUST do a FULL installation. Tick EVERYTHING!!

Are you using Easytutu? If it works where you are, it is a LOT easier.

Bingo. Also, IIRC you should patch ToB, and try EasyTutu.

Copy of message to Bioware support:
Greetings

Now, I have a wish to play BG-ToTSC using EasyTutu so I can go all the way to ToB with the same engine. However, I have run into a problem.

I have the 4 DVD boxed set (my earlier versions worn down- I hope you keep reproducing this game), my problem is this:

When I run ToB to play, I get a Blue Screen of Death asking me for CD 1 of BG, then CTD with an error message telling me I have the assertation failure from incomplete install (I forgot the nr but I checked), so I assume that the 4 DVD set is the same version as the three cd one I had before and already patched to latest version.

So I tried not to patch it.

However, I am Danish, using a Danish version of Window$ and when I tested the ToTSC without Tutu, I got another error message saying that it will only function on English version OS. In order to rectify that I would have to patch and thus be back to having it crash with assertation fail...

This is a conundrum, can you offer sagely advice?

Best wishes, Palle
Nothing heard from them, as you see I cannot patch BGI

Sorry, that's a workaround, not a solution. :)

You need to do a full installation of the game, with all game files on your hard-disk. You can also set the CD paths manually under [Alias] in your baldur.ini file, once the content is indeed on your drive:

[Alias]
HD0:=D:\Shadows\
CD1:=D:\Shadows\CD1\
CD2:=D:\Shadows\CD2\
CD3:=D:\Shadows\CD3\
CD4:=D:\Shadows\CD4\
CD5:=D:\Shadows\CD5\

Thanks, though I am not entirely certain what to do still.

But in any case, does it help my next problem?

Do you mean the language troubles?

If so, you can try the following:

- Uninstall BG, and manually look for Bioware / Baldur's Gate entries in the registry. As Metallica sang: KILL'EM ALL. :D

- Afterwards, go to your Windows control panel and set your locale (country-specific settings) to UK or US, depending on the BG version you have.

- Now try a full / custom installation and make sure that all files will be copied to your hard-drive.

- Do NOT use c:\program files\.... or any default install path. Use a custom one like d:\games\baldur2

- Do NOT apply any patches if you have a very recent version.

- Run the game once before installing any mods, and see if it works.

- If it does work, make a backup copy of the entire game's directory somewhere else on your hard-drive before you install any modifications.

I have now found myself an English version of XP. A format tomorrow should take care of the language problems and any remaining troublesome vira.

Then I start from scrap.
