I really don't know if this has been asked before, nor did I know what to search for around the forums, but is there an RPG in which you can actually write the journal yourself ? Like noting down important stuff from dialogues etc. I can do it with a pen and a notebook, but that's well...boring :)

tough question :) the only ones that come to mind are BG1 i believe you can write in your journal.

and realms of arkania series i also think you have a virtual journal to write tips and what not.

you might want to look at oldies, their your best bet if you can stand DOS games :D

the good news: yes, you can write in your journal throughout the BG games

the bad news: it can get wiped clean for no reason at all.

I had like 60-plus notations journaled during my first play of BG2:SoA...then it was gone. And it didn't matter if I reloaded an earlier save. It was gone. forever. Permanently

Recommend good ol' pen and paper.

There's also a mod by Aerelorn for Morrowind that allows you to write entries, and a great mod by Kyoma that lets you do that in Oblivion, complete with selections of color, multiple fonts, boldface, etc.

You can also write in your journal in NWN.
