Thoughts on this game?

Post by Ragin Cajun »

I haven't even heard of this game but just saw it on the GB Games of the Year rundown. Just looking for thoughts on the game from those of you that played it.

How's the depth of the game?
Replayability?
Storyline?
What would you compare it too, gamewise?

Thanks for you thoughts.

I would compare it with nwn2 with a diferent leveling up and classes, skills are better implemented than nwn2, companions are notthing note worthy, history telling for me was below average but decent enough. some entretaing bossv fights. Its an average RPG its good features are weighted equally to its bad features.

I personaly didnt care to much about the story of this game, even if I love the previous games with godlike dificulty :D
Have you seen my brain around here? No? well in case you see it its brainy and squishy looking. If you see it let me know

I'd put it more in the Divine Divinity class than NWN2. We have a review of Drakensang here.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

The *review* is well done and very thorough, but the *rating* doesn't match the review IMO (..at all).

I'm finding it's a pretty game with decent story and RPG features, but is more work than fun. It's not a game I'd play again, and I could easily stop playing it now.

The review has it spot on: movement and combat are pretty sub-par, and kill what other-wise could have been a decent game.

The magical and talent "sections" are also pitiful when compared to D&D (..or even the more recently released Dragon Age). On the other hand there are some aspects that I preferred to D&D's system (..like the damage modifier on weapons - even though there is no explanation in the game about it).

I've not played Divine Divinity.. but I'd say it's closer in quality to NWN's 1, while being more like NWN's 2. My previous ratings are: NWN1 - 4 out of 10, BG1 - 5 out of 10, NWN 2 - 5.5 out of 10,, DA:O - 7 out of 10, BG2 - 8.5 out of 10, Wizardry 8 - 8 out of 10, PS:T - 9 out of 10.

This game I'd give about a 4.5 out of 10.. It's a decent RPG system and story, it's pretty, it has a LOT of playable hours, but the gaming-mechanics are below average.

Play Dragon Age instead (if you are interested in this type of gaming format).. more of the same elements but done better (..though I can't say that for any of the add-on's or its follow-up campaign).
