About resistances (spoiler)

Whenever I have to fight a big boss like the giant dragon or the dark mages in elite mode their elemental attacks kill me quite easily. Even my tank who has 80% in all resistances except in melee, ranged and non elemental(but still high in those area's). Is there no way to defend against their attacks but to dodge them or am i doing something wrong here?
