Balor: one tough customer

Balor is indeed one tough customer, but luckily, I did not have to fight him. After failing a couple times, "No Effect!" I simply summoned Mordenkainen's Sword 3 times and watched. I didn't have to do anything- my party literally sat and cheered for the swords.

As a sorcerer, you can summon 3 of these at a time from the moment they become available. Nice bit of fire-power.

I have convinced myself that if you choose a magic class, you have no choice but sorcerer.

I've been wondering about them...my game stopped working before I could test them out. Are Mordekain's Swords truly invulnerable to weaponry?

and why do you say that mr. wave (asked the pc pure mage)?

Nearly invulnerable. I saw the demon knights take a couple out, but mostly because I got careless and rushed all 5 of them with no preparations or strategy. Used more wisely- they seem to did the job quite nicely.

now you're getting too detailed on me, I couldn't follow....Anything specific? And are there, IYHO good duels with the sorc?

We had this discussion while you were on some sort of hiatus- my reasoning is that there are only a few really useful spells per level that you will learn to rely on. As a sorcerer, you can choose these (no need to find a scroll) and cast them many more times. For the less used spells, use an NPC like Aerie or Nalia as a pinch hitters.

You made a grave error when creating you PC, Foul Image Baal and I laugh at your choice.

I know they're extremely vulnerable to magic damage...one or two good spells and they're gone.

They have as many hitpoints as any pure mage.

The trick is to set the game difficulty to the second one so HP rolls are maxed (only when you press the level up button), cast a familiar and toss him in your pack (12 or so free HP) so he can't die. Also, start with 18 constitution so you get 6 HP a level instead of 4. 18 dex, bracers of AC 3. Gaxx, and the powerful wizardry ring (Harper quest.) This way you can have around 80 HP.

But those blades can do an awful lot of damage (5D4+4 I think)! I used them to take Kangaxx out, because the swords are +4 weapons. Worked perfectly!

IIRC for a mage (or any non-fighter classes) there's no real point having CON above 16, as you only ever get +2 HP/lvl. Has anyone tested this?

Just read the shot you took at me a while back in this post for the first time...thou art a misbegotten offspring of questionable parents.....to take advantage of a pure mage whose stats total less than thirty combined....

Bad Man.

Phil is correct, anything beyond 16 Con for a non-warrior is wasted.

Foul: 30 total stats? As in 30/6=5 average?? Given the class minimums, can you get any lower?

Now, that would be a real challenge: Solo the game with a character with minimum stats!

i AM soloing a character with the minimum stats. Damn game is impossible. I'm trying to use the weakest weapons possible as well. At the hardest difficult level.

Which pretty much means that if I get ganged up on by more than orc, I get my ass kicked.
Great fun.

@foul,
Maybe you could memorize the least useful spells and have yourself level drained without restoring. I think this excersise in self punishment says much about you...

@wave
I'm not a masochist, I just like to actually role-play different characters. As opposed to collecting all the "Ball-Gag of Titan Strength" type items.

^^^^^^^^^^
a thick liquid darkness descends upon the land as the Dwimmerlaik approaches the inert body of his victim Waverly, raises his mace on high and with a critical miss, smashes it into his own knee, winces in pain (because though he is very weak, and therefore doesn't have much strength to wield with much force, he also has a poor constitution, and AC of 10 and low hit points so it doesn't take much), stumbles due to his incredibly pathetic dexterity, falls to the ground causing his mace to fall and strike him again, releasing its special disruptive power, fails his saving throw (again...) and crumbles to dust which is blown away on the wind...

@ Foul... I believe it was Rail who said he didn't want to multiplayer with me in the game because of all the bad luck I had with the NPCs...I'll inform Rail about you...my luck has never been as bad as yours. Image
