New Party... suggestions

I have never played a wizard in the game as a PC.

I am wondering how this party will work out

Me, Gnome Fighter/Illusionist
Keldoran
Aerie
Imoen
Jan
Jaheira

I am wondering how hard it will be overall. I have Myself, Aerie, Jan and Jahiera as multi classed... all healers and most wizards multi until after I rescue Imoen.

Imoen's spot will be taken by various people until I get enough XP to survive the Underdark.

In the end I will have 2 multi classed fighters, 2 multiclassed healers, 3 multiclassed wizards, Imoen and Keldoran will be the only 2 single classed characters in the game.

Imagine whirlwind attack as an iron golem... just to wicked to even contemplate...

Imoen is a dual class :)

Are you sure that its possible to become an Illusionist MULTIclass? Forgive the question, however i have my doubts about it.

This party will be just as strong, as Aerie is overall. At first, a pile of monkey.. biological output.. but after quite some time, god-farming bunch of monsters. I see a problem here however, mainly gear for your mages. Equipping four of them will be quite hard.

Other than that, you'll experience some problems only at the very beginning.

ya, I love that party. But use Jan more for buffing and backstabbing, rather than as an offensive mage. Aerie is more than enough to fill the screen with destruction. don't under estimate turnip power.

True, Imoen is Dual classed, but her thieving skills are so lacking it is silly. In my opinion is is a mage who can shoot a bow.

As far as being an illusionist, the only school I am giving up is Necromancy.

I went gnome for the high saves they get, even at 8th level I was resisting spells very often.

Well, you have 2 robes of the Magi you can get easily. You get get a 3rd in the when you get the deck of many things. Then there is the Robe of Vecna as well.

Some of the spells might be hard to come by for everyone, but I will do alot of hunting them down.

I have never used Jan or Jahiera in a group for very long. Though I am going to miss Anomen with the Flail of the Ages and Crom Feyr dual wielding.

Give Jaheira Ixil spear and belt of XXX giant strength, and You shall miss Anomen no more :)

What i meant with the illusionist-multi class question was. I did not know (and still ain't sure) that you can choose a kit when going multiclass. Unless its only Illu-Fighter and only for gnomes.

You can give flail to Aerie, with another belt of XXX strength and buff spells she may turn into a fighter/cleric/mage if needed.

When Jan casts Mislead, he can backstab over and over and over and over...pure nasty.

Unfortunately, you can't protect your Mislead clones from True Sight. Project Images can't physically attack and Simulcrums spawn at 60%, otherwise Jan would be unstoppable.

Can't you put your Mislead clones in another room and close the door? I seem to remember that this approach would protect them from detection spells, all though I'm not sure...

You might be right man, but with the patches I had, True Sight cast by the enemy was pretty thorough. I was playing with Haer'Dalis and was constantly trying to scam free Bard Song but everything I tried failed. I guess my patch configuration nerfed a few things.

PS. I forgot to mention one important party recommendation to the OP...drop Jaheira and add Cernd!!! (see my sig)

May i add that i never had Cernd in my party longer than a few minutes it took me to trigger his second personal quest.. So i can kill one more lich? :) The main problem with Cernd is that he isn't a totemic druid. The second problem is that Shapeshifting is horrible in vanilla game (you need to patch it) The third...

This. However some bosses tend to have map-wide true sight and nothing stops them from casting dispel magic through walls.

Oh, I fully understand the reasons why Cernd sucks. That's irrelevant.

The degree to which this guy has been left out in the cold, within the context of the greatest PC game ever made, makes him infamously lame. He is so pathetic I feel sorry for him.

Sally Struthers should do one of those tearful, guilt-ridden commercials about THIS guy instead.

He is a druid, if he can't stand the cold... he shouldn't be a druid

Any gnome mage multiclass will be an Illusionist by default. IIRC you can't even be a vanilla mage - it's Illusionist or nothing.
I do know you can't make a gnome Wild Mage without Power Word: Shadowkeeper.

Might make Aerie a Cleric/Illusionist, come to think of it - does anyone know if the prohibited Necromancy school applies to Cleric spells as well, or just mage spells?
