Newbie question

Yep, believe it or not I just got Baldur's Gate 2!
So, I will ask the first of my daft questions :-
I have Aerie with memorised spells in the Mage Book and Priest scroll.
F7 - 'Cast Spell' contains the spells from Priest Scroll
F5 and F6 'Quick Spell' are empty.
How do I get the Mage Book spells into F5 and F6? If I right click on them then up pop the spells in F7. The manual talks about a quick spell slot - where is it? I can only find the buttons.
Thanks

Actually, ALL of your spells are under the "Cast Magic" icon. If you scroll long enough, you'll hit them. After you click that icon (assuming you have enough spells to warrant for scroll buttons), you should get either a blue mage book or a blue priest scroll to your left. Clicking one will bring you to the first available spell from that category.
Long story short, you can access all of your memorized spells at once, through the spellcasting menu.

Thanks for the info.
My confusion was caused by the fact that the spell bars show only ACTIVE spells so I had 23 memorised and only 10 showing so no slider arrows.
I have just been doing some experiments with sleep because spells were not being renewed, particularly the healing ones. I have 'heal whilst resting' on and my characters were fully healed before sleeping.
I put them to sleep 3 times and 7 spells remained inactive. 16 active only.
I removed the healing spells from memorised and slept again.
I put back the healing spells and slept again.
This activated the spells.
Is this a bug or am I missing something again?
Thanks

When spells are unmemorized, you won't even see them in your cast bar. If spells are there, but dimmed or unselectable, mage spells in particular, it means you're wearing armor.

Thanks for the input guys. However, although I have them working, I find this game almost impossible! Pretty much like Nethack.

When you press "Space" you pause the game. You can give orders while the game is paused.
Not so impossible now, eh?
P.S. Save often.

Welcome, and congratulations on purchasing the best computer RPG yet.
No worries, you will get the hang of it, perhaps one day even surpass two masters of tactics already posting in this thread.
If you can live with spoilers you could search the forum for various tactics, various balanced parties and not least quest order.
For example, the Circus Quest is much easier than the De'Arnise scourging Quest, which again is easier than The Unseeing Eye...

I did persevere for a while but I don't have the mindset for this game. Spending hours searching for enough cash to buy something useful and trying to increase one's XP (to little effect) wasn't my scene.
Horses for courses I suppose. Oddly enough, I found Nethack easier!

I can hear the collective hearts of this place sinking
BG2 is hands down the greatest PC game ever made and I'm sorry you can't relate to it. Maybe give it another shot in a few years.

Yep. Just do the quests. Pretty soon you will have plenty of cash.
