Umarel?? Kind of stuck..

I was reading in the walk thru that you have to activate the orb? It will explode etc, I've played this before but maybe the one time I've 'activated' the orb it went well. Just not sure how I'm suppose to do this, to get onto the next part of the quest. I'm hitting the heck out of the orb now. Thanks for any assistance.

There should be no need to hit it at all, just activate it with the appropriate key, spacebar on the PC by default, hitting it should have no effect at all.
