No magic on Quick Bar

I’m playing a Battlemage, currently at level 5. Just finished the Guild of Thieves quest “A Question of Honor” and had traveled to Moorbridge (after a couple of overwrite saves while still in Ferdok), and discovered that all my magic was gone from the Quick-Slot Bar! Not one spell was available, but all other stuff (potions, etc.) was still there.

I had to load a save prior to the “Honor” quest to regain access to my spells, requiring me to repeat this quest. I didn’t notice whether the spells were still there BEFORE I started that quest the first time, because I have my spells on the first bar, and items like lockpicks on the second bar (which was all I was using during the “Honor” quest).

What might have happened? The spells could not be removed and then reinstalled on the bar when this happened. Other items could be. Thought the QS bar might be locked somehow, but I don’t think this game offers that option. Is this a bug, and is there a workaround?

Did the spells disappear, or were they just grayed out? If the latter, then it sounds like you put some metal armor on your battlemage (which prevents spellcasting).

Yep, metal was the culprit (greaves). Thanks. I think that aspect of the game is pretty lame though, because in melee combat I can't take as much damage as my companions, and I find that my spellcasting often gets interrupted because it takes so bloody long to cast spells. I have to really work at staying ranged for protection.

I read somewhere about a regen robe that sounds good-I'll be keeping an eye out for that.

Actually the battlecaster can have some of the best armor in the game! ;)

The spell is: Fastness of Body

Toggle the +/- to as many "+" as you can get. Each "+" increases your armor by +1!

(..in fact it's so good by mid-point in the game ALL of my companions are also casters. Specifically: Ancoron, Jost, and Gwendala.)

Thanks! I'll double check this to make sure it's maxed.
