Problem with the controls

Just recently the controls on my Morrowind (PC) haven't been working properly. Namely, the keys to ready weapons and magic. My chosen keys were simply W for weapons, M for magic. I've never had this problem before but now, however, these two keys simply don't work. I've tried changing the actual keys allocated to these actions, to keys I know work with other actions, but still they won't work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you by any chance set the music to zero?
If you do that, keys either won't work or they'll be very slow to respond, especially in interiors.
If this is the cause, try setting the music to very low, but not off.

What are you saying? I've never experienced this

It's not a persistent bug, sometimes it happens, sometimes not (even for the same person) but if you turn the music totally off it can cause mouse lag, especially in interiors. So, you need to hit "R" or "F" (whatever it happens to be) repeatedly before you can ready a weapon or spell. Also, your movement becomes very slow and awkward. I had this happen, and it actually took me ages to figure out what it was, check the last post I made in the Yellow Pages Sticky.

That is a weird effect, but my music's on about 60% (so not off). I also tried the whole lagging theory for about5 minutes straight to be sure. It's not lagging sadly, just not working.

Well, since Morrowind music are mp3s (i believe) turning the music OFF helps in fighting lag. At least it helped me, years ago, when i played TES on a horribly weak PC.

Well, I still don't know what caused the problem, but I started a new game and the problem has gone away. Thanks for all of your help guys.
